Segmented Bowl

My first segmented bowl. The bowl is made from an old 2×4 used as a stand for an old piece of shop equipment made back in the sixties. I accented it with mahogany from scraps left over from the Queen Bedroom set featured on my website.

There are 6 layers with 8 segments each. The bowl is 11 3/4″ in diameter at the top and 6″ deep.
I will be posting a gallery of all my projects soon. Stay tuned

Shop Photos

I have been busy working on upgrading the shop for the last few months. I am currently making a shaker style work bench and will be posting pictures in the next few days. I currently have the top in 3 slabs of a combination of hard maple and cherry. It will be similar to the one pictured here.

I’m modifying this design to suit my needs as any woodworker would tell you.  I’m planning on using  round dog holes in the work top with an end vise. I’m not sure if I will be using a front vise or leg vise. I like the addition of the dead-man and I can see that this will be a useful addition to my bench. The top I am making is over 30″ deep and it will be just over 76″ long with the end vise. The top is close to 4″ thick and will have a 2″x6″ cherry and maple skirt. This will be a very heavy stable bench.

Welcome to Custom Woodwork By Fred

I am a local woodworker located in the Bradenton Florida area. I have over 30 years experience in home remodeling, cabinetry and furniture making. My website showcases a fraction of my work and I invite you to take a look.

My furniture pieces are primarily fabricated from reclaimed lumber. I can see the potential for what this would can become and my pieces are designed around the pieces based on how much is available. I also use new lumber depending on the project. I also use the scraps to make custom cutting boards, picture frames and more. I try to use everything even the sawdust.

I manufacture custom cabinetry in wood and laminate and also fabricate laminate counter-tops.

I make furniture and cabinetry for residential and commercial customers.
